PECO was looking to revive their home thermostat products and move out of the cutthroat competition with lower end imported brands. Fiori designers created a fresh design that gave the product a more upscale look and has allowed them to compete at the higher end of the product spectrum with better margins and gain a better presence in the major retailers.
9.15.06 Tunes for the Home Phone
Fiori created a distinctive design for a whole new class of product for a new startup company. HomePhoneTunes brings fun and distinctive ringtones to landline telephones. Choose from hundreds of ring tones you can associate with different phone numbers. Like Psycho for your mother-in-law. Billy Bob and Earl for your cousin. Or Laughing for those pesky telemarketers.
6.12.06 Fiori creates new Ground Control Product Line for Yakima
Fiori’s research and design teams identified a strong need for storing and organizing outdoor gear and have created an entirely new product line for Yakima to fill that need with great potential for growth. Fiori built upon Yakima’s already successful model of offering a rack that is customized for each customer and brought that model into the home.
10.1.05 Awarded for excellence in work space design
Fiori’s downtown Portland studio space was honored with the Citation Award, the competition’s highest honor, in the Commercial Office Space Design category at the 13th annual IIDA - AIA – IDSA International Interior Design Competition. Chris Valentine, our own director of Industrial Design, collaborated with WGS design to create a space that reflected both its present and historical occupants.
6.18.04 HP 7960 Printer Fastest Growing Photo Printer in History
Hewlett Packard's new HP 7960 printer, first offered in October of this year, has been declared an absolute market success winning accolades from ZDNet, Epinions, PCWorld, CNet among others, rating the HP 7960 printer as the very best of its class. Fiori collaborated with HP and developed the industrial design and usability solution for the entire family of HP Photosmart printers.
05.31.04 Fiori Wins Five 2003 GOOD DESIGN Awards!
GOOD DESIGN, the world's oldest and most prestigious awards program announced today that Fiori is the recipient of five design awards for their work on the HP Photosmart 7960 and 7270 printers, HP Deskjet 5550 printer, InFocus High Definition LP650 Projector and the Bigha Recumbent Bicycle.
05.24.04 Fiori Wins Silver and Gold at the 10th Biennial NW Design Invitational
Fiori picked up a Silver award for Bigha bicycle in the transportation category and a Gold award for "The Bus Stops Here" bus shelter exploration in the concept category of the 2004 NW Design Invitational competition.
5.21.04 Planar Introduces Invitium Medical Platform
Planar Systems introduces the new Invitium Point-of-Care Medical Information Platform. Invitium is an all-in-one LCD display and embedded computer system designed for multiple hospital applications where reliable and portable computing is necessary. Fiori worked closely with Planar to provide the industrial design, product engineering and manufacturing support in the development of Invitium.
04.30.04 Fiori Teams Up with DaVinci Middle School for Toy Design Competition
Fiori is working with middle school students at DaVinci Middle School in Portland Oregon, the arts magnet school in Portland, on an innovative entry to this year's Toy Challenge. The goal of the competition is to help middle school students learn about science, engineering and the design process by designing a toy for entry into regional and local competitions.
04.29.04 O2 Sustainability Meeting Hosted at Fiori
Fiori hosted the Oregon chapter of the O2 Sustainability group with guest speaker Stewart Cowen, author of Ecological Design, heading the agenda. The event was considered a complete success with attendees including local architects, graphic and product designers, engineers, managers, developers, students, sustainable business owners, and a representative from Portland's Trimet.
04.23.04 Tripod's Rugged Recon PDA Wins Wide Acclaim
Tripod Data Systems, a Trimble Company, has been receiving international praise on their rugged-duty Recon handheld computer. Fiori's design team worked closely with Tripod's development team to meet the stringent requirements necessary to succeed in the rugged handheld field.

Fiori continues its successful relationship with Tripod Data Systems with the completion of 2 new products, the TDS Ranger and TDS Recon. Both products have fulfilled the goal of developing a rugged handheld for the surveying industry. These products can be dropped, kicked, submerged in water, and left to dry in a hot desert or icy tundra.

The Fiori designed Bigha premium recumbent bicycle continues to receive impressive attention in the press. Recent stories in Bicycling, Entrepreneur, the Robb Report, Mountain Bike Guide, Vision and Menz magazines rated the Bigha bike as a high point in cycling experiences with Menz magazine calling the Bigha the "Ferrari of bicycles".

Riding the bus or train can mean enduring crowds, awkward conversations and a great deal of waiting. Despite its challenges, public transit is a boon to our cities. In developing this group of concepts, we set out to promote public transit through design. Each concept challenged existing perceptions about public transit and transit shelters.

Editors at the Dutch design magazine, Archis, recently featured Fiori's My Life project in their thematic issue on time, space and flow of the future. My Life is a pervasive personal story that combines technology into an innovative new system enabling people to record, collect and organize their life experiences in the context in which they are experienced.
1.31.04 PC World Rates HP Deskjet 5550 a 'Best Computer Product'
PC World magazine rated HP's Deskjet 5550 as one of twenty 'Best Computer Products' of the year describing it as a "great all around printer at a great price". Fiori collaborated with HP and developed the industrial design solution for the Deskjet 5550 printer.

Fiori congratulates client company InFocus Corporation, the worldwide leader in digital projection technology, for winning three prestigious CES Innovations 2004 Design and Engineering Showcase Awards. Fiori Research and Design groups worked closely with InFocus in gaining a deeper understanding of users prior to the design of these best-in-class products.
